Ms. Sunnenberg:
Tim Jamison forwarded your message to me for response. I'm the Engineer in charge of the City's
Street Rehabilitation Program, under which Adleta Construction is paving
streets in Roselawn and other neighborhoods.
We've been approached by many of the residents of Scottwood
Avenue this week regarding the installation of curb on the west side of the
street. While we normally only perform
curb repairs under our Street Rehab Program - work on curbs which
currently exist - we have decided that it would be appropriate to consider
building new curbs on the west side of the street to match that on the east
side. Consequently I have requested our
Construction Engineer on this project to determine whether we would be able to
build the curb on the west side without creating low spots in the pavement that
would trap water, and making sure that the new curb will not impact the health
of the street trees there. The latter
problem might be solved by a compromise whereby we would install curb along
most of the street, but leave gaps where we can't cut into the roots of the
street trees.
So we're going to work on a way to build the curb on the west
side of Scottwood, and will follow through if that is indeed possible. I'll send you a follow-up message regarding
our final decision once the Construction Managers conclude their evaluation.

Subject: ROSELAWN: Street Renovations: Scottwood Avenue
Dear
Mr. Jamison,
I applaud the improvements along Parkdale and Rosecliff Avenues in Roselawn,
including the street resurfacing and repouring of curbs. Having lived at
1607 Rosecliff Avenue since August 1995, I have become very involved with
neighborhood redevelopment, through Community Council beginning in 1999, and
more recently with the Roselawn Community Urban Redevelopment
Corporation. I am confident these street repairs will help us hold our property
values and inspire us to continue doing our part to maintain, improve and
promote Roselawn.
I understand from one of my neighbors on Scottwood Avenue that there are no
plans to pour curb on the western side of that street. I can assure you
that this is very much needed. The western curb is no longer visible
along any part of the two blocks of Scottwood. The consequent damage to
the treelawn is both unsightly and creates two health hazards: as a trip
hazard and as a breeding ground for mosquitos during the rainy season.
While Adleta is in the neighborhood, I hope you will be able to remediate the
oversight by adding the curbing on the western side of Scottwood to the
punchlist.
Thank you,
Nancy L. Sunnenberg
